Department of Physical Medicine & Neuro-Rehabilitation

Our Mission

The mission of the Department of Physical Medicine & Neuro-Rehabilitation at Barrow Neurological Institute is to provide advanced neuro-rehabilitation care for people with physical and cognitive limitations. Our goal is to maximize their independence, wellness, and quality of life for home, work, and community integration.

This includes the most comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services in the region provided by a team of clinicians and board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians. Care is individualized for each person served, with particular distinction in cognitive rehabilitation and vocational outcomes. This commitment to excellence is reflected in our being named as a top center for neuro-rehabilitation by U.S. News and World Report.

Education

Our department employs the latest robotic and electrical stimulation technology to advance knowledge of novel techniques and rehabilitative therapies while offering innovative patient care. Leading the way in clinical education, we offer four annual symposiums to advance clinical skills and competencies.

We have a strong focus on teaching the next generation, maintaining relationships with more than 20 universities from around the country to provide neuro-rehabilitation student clinical internships. We provide training opportunities for medical students, residents, and therapists.

Outcomes

Patient care outcomes and satisfaction meets or exceeds national benchmarks for patients recovering from brain injury, stroke, and spinal cord injuries.

All of our programs are accredited by the Joint Commission and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
