Felipe Albuquerque, MD, is an endovascular neurosurgeon, the Evie and Lou Grubb Chair for Neurovascular Research, and a professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Barrow Neurological Institute. He also serves as the director of endovascular neurosurgery and the director of the Neuroendovascular Intervention Fellowship. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.

Dr. Albuquerque’s expertise includes the minimally invasive treatment of vascular diseases of the brain and spine. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons Joint Section of Cerebrovascular Surgery. He currently serves as vice president of the Society of University Neurosurgeons and will assume the position of president in July 2021.

Dr. Albuquerque earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland Medical School in Baltimore. He completed his neurosurgery residency and an endovascular fellowship at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He underwent additional endovascular and cerebrovascular neurosurgery training at Barrow.

Dr. Albuquerque has published more than 450 peer-reviewed articles, 80 book chapters, and two endovascular neurosurgical books. He has served as associate editor to renowned peer-reviewed publications, such as Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgery, and World Neurosurgery. In 2016, he was chosen as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Neurointerventional Surgery.
