Determinants of Incident Stroke Cognitive Outcomes and Vascular Effects on Recovery (DISCOVERY)

DISCOVERY is a prospective, multicenter, observational, nested-cohort study with the overarching objectives to identify specific stroke subtypes associated with risk of PSCID in diverse US populations and elucidate mechanisms of PSCID through systematic assessment of the effect of acute stroke and its interaction with antecedent clinical and pathological comorbidities, including SVD and AD/ADRD pathology.

The purpose of DISCOVERY is to learn about what factors make people more or less likely to develop dementia (decline in memory, thinking, and other mental abilities that significantly affects daily functioning) after having a stroke. The goal of this study is to help doctors identify patients at risk for dementia after their stroke so that, in the future, treatments may be developed to lower that risk.
