PRIME Study: Precise Robotically Implanted Brain-Computer Interface

If you have tetraplegia due to spinal cord injury or ALS and want to explore new ways of controlling your computer, we invite you to participate in Neuralink’s clinical trial.

Participants will go through a robot-assisted surgery to implant a device designed to enable
them to control a computer with their thoughts.

You may qualify if you:

  • Are at least 22 years old
  • Have tetraplegia (limited function in all 4 limbs) due to spinal cord injury or ALS and are at least 1-year post-injury (without change in function)
  • Are able to communicate in English verbally or via typing on computer or other means

Neuralink is seeking people with tetraplegia to participate in a groundbreaking investigational medical device clinical trial for its brain-computer interface.

The ability to interface with digital devices and the Internet is a requirement for functioning in an increasingly digital society. Unfortunately, the input systems that are currently available to many people with tetraplegia often fail to meet their needs, leading to decreased engagement in society and increased dependency on others.

The Neuralink implant is designed to establish a wireless, digital link between the brain and computers to potentially provide individuals with paralysis the same reliable control over smart devices as non-disabled individuals have (if not better).

This study aims to validate the safety and usefulness of the Neuralink implant and surgical robot – an important step towards shaping the future of assistive technologies that will potentially help millions of people with tetraplegia and other neurological conditions around the world.
