Connecting Care
Barrow Global

Working together to improve the neurological health care of the underserved around the world.

Addressing neuroscience needs in the developing world is challenging, to say the least. Conditions like epilepsy, hydrocephalus, brain tumors, and traumatic brain injuries can leave an indelible mark across many global societies.

In 2021, Barrow Global was established to help address the healthcare needs of underserved populations worldwide. Buoyed by the legacy of Dr. Robert Spetzler, who has trained and inspired countless neurosurgeons across the globe, this learning environment has attracted more than 1,000 neuroscience physicians, advanced practice nurses, scientists, and students alike since 2007.

Every year since, a steady thrum has emerged, and it’s this: our healthcare systems are profoundly interconnected.

This is why the collaborative efforts of neurology, neurosurgery, neuro-rehabilitation, neuroradiology, and many more exemplify a unified commitment to advancing global health. Together, our clinicians leverage their collective knowledge and skills to address the global burden of neurological diseases and to push against the current boundaries in research, treatment, and rehabilitation.

The Franke Global Neuroscience Education Center is our platform for building neuroscience care and clinical education programs to reach, teach, and serve our colleagues in the developing world.

The Franke Gift is one of the largest gifts in the nation made to the continued development of neuroscience. Our goal is to establish bilateral clinical training and research while developing sustainable innovation in neurological and neurosurgical care.
