Get With The Guidelines®
St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, home to Barrow Neurological Institute’s Petznick Stroke Center, has earned the 2024 Get With The Guidelines® Stroke GOLD PLUS Achievement Award with Target: Stroke Honor Roll and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll. This award from the American Heart Association recognizes our commitment to adhering to the latest evidence-based treatment guidelines for stroke.
CurePSP Center of Care
Barrow Neurological Institute has been named a CurePSP Center of Care—the only medical institution in Arizona to currently hold this designation. This achievement recognizes the dedication of the Institute’s Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center to caring for people with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), corticobasal degeneration, and multiple system atrophy. As one of 36 medical institutions across the United States and Canada to earn this designation, Barrow has demonstrated a commitment to comprehensive care, close collaboration with other CurePSP centers and the organization, community outreach, professional education, and research for these rare neurodegenerative diseases.
ANA IDEAS Award
Tshibambe Nathanael Tshimbombu, MD, an adult neurology resident at Barrow, has received an Inclusion/Diversity/Equity/Anti-Racism/Social Justice (IDEAS) Early Career Member Award from the American Neurological Association. He is one of two recipients of this award for 2024, which will be presented during the 149th Annual Meeting of the ANA in September. Established in 2021, this award recognizes, honors, and supports the professional development of early career physician-scientists and researchers who are underrepresented in medicine.
AHA Advisory Group
Tiffany O. Sheehan, PhD, RN, stroke program coordinator at Barrow, has accepted an invitation from the American Heart Association to serve as a member of its Systems of Care Advisory Group – Stroke. She will serve a two-year term on the 16-member national committee, which focuses on stroke care quality improvement.
Newsweek’s Best Neurological Hospitals
Newsweek has named Barrow Neurological Institute one of America’s Best Neurological Hospitals for 2024. The No. 18 ranking recognizes the Institute’s expertise in diagnosing and treating neurological conditions, specifically noting its proficiency in epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease care, brain tumor surgery, and spinal fusion. The media organization partnered with global data firm Statista, Inc. to compile this inaugural list of 175 hospitals.
