U.S. News Names Barrow a Top Hospital for Rehabilitation
U.S. News & World Report has again named Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona as one of the country’s Best Hospitals for Rehabilitation. At No. 34 for 2024-25, the Institute has climbed three spots from last year and six spots from the previous year.
To develop the latest top 50 list, U.S. News evaluated 1,049 rehabilitation hospitals around the country using data from sources like Medicare. Reviewers considered factors such as prevention of hospital readmission, patient volume, advanced technologies offered, and CARF accreditation.
“I am so proud of the work of the Barrow staff that led to this accomplishment,” said Christina Kwasnica, MD, medical director of the Barrow Neuro-Rehabilitation Center. “Our neuro-rehabilitation program is a cutting-edge, patient-first, technology-based program. To be recognized for that is a great accomplishment. We will continue to strive to improve our national ranking, commensurate with the amazing care we provide.”
The Neuro-Rehabilitation Center at Barrow provides a complete spectrum of care, including medically managed inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services, work and school re-entry programs, and opportunities to participate in adaptive recreation and support groups. The Center’s team includes physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, rehabilitation nurses, neuropsychologists, and social workers.

In addition to this highly skilled, multidisciplinary team, Barrow boasts a suite of neuro-robotic devices and other advanced rehabilitation technologies. Many Barrow therapists have undergone special training in these devices, and the Center is continuously researching the latest technologies and implementing them across the continuum of care.
“I am particularly proud of our Neuro-Rehabilitation Center’s top ranking because rehab is often such an important part of the neurological patient’s journey to recovery,” said Barrow President and CEO Michael T. Lawton, MD. “In addition, rehab patients with neurological deficits are exactly the ones who will benefit from the future technologies we are developing and trialing here at Barrow, such as robotics and brain-computer interfaces.”
