At a Glance: Our Neuro-Ophthalmology Program

An individualized branch of medicine treating visual problems related to diseases of the brain, rather than the eyes, neuro-ophthalmology is a specialty that’s often underserved. Yet, with training in both neurology and ophthalmology, our neuro-ophthalmologists have the experience to evaluate patients from each of these angles.

Additionally, Barrow is home to a multitude of neurological specialists familiar with the conditions that underlie eye and visual problems. This, in turn, allows you or your loved one to receive exhaustive, thorough treatment under one roof.

Note: At this time, a referral from a neurologist or ophthalmologist is required to make an appointment with one of our neuro-ophthalmology providers.

The Barrow Difference

Many patients are referred to our Neuro-Ophthalmology Program for additional evaluation after consulting with a neurologist, ophthalmologist, optometrist, or any combination of the three. Once referred, our neuro-ophthalmologists take as much time with you as possible in order to provide you or your loved one with answers. Our neuro-ophthalmologists are dedicated to providing an answer when other physicians can’t.

Considering that a proper diagnosis starts with an in-depth evaluation, our team is highly-skilled in assessing a variety of visual and eye-related symptoms, including:

Abnormal Eye Movements (e.g. Nystagmus)
Double Vision (Diplopia)
Eyelid Abnormalities (e.g. Ptosis)
Forced Eye Closure (Blepharospasm)
