Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus Program

At a Glance: Our Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus Program

Our Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) Program is home to a dedicated multidisciplinary team that’s well-versed in providing evaluation, diagnostic testing, and treatment for those with NPH.

Classified by an abnormal buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain’s cavities, NPH occurs when the normal flow of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain and spinal cord is blocked in some way, causing ventricles to enlarge and putting pressure on the brain.

Our NPH team includes specialists from the following groups:

  • Neurology
  • Neurosurgery
  • Neuropathology
  • Neurorehabilitation
  • Neurological Research
  • Physical Therapy
  • Neuroradiology
  • Nursing
  • Neuropsychology

The Barrow Difference

At Barrow Neurological Institute, we work tirelessly to tailor treatment plans for you or your loved one’s specific needs, across all specialties and subspecialities. This is no different when it comes to our NPH team. Through a team review of medical records, radiographic tests, and diagnostic examinations, our NPH team is dedicated to the continuity of care during the course of treatment—and this extends to discharge planning and correspondence with other physicians involved in you or your loved one’s care.

Our team frequently holds patient care conferences and engages in collaboration between clinical and research specialists. What’s more, we facilitate educational programs to help advance the diagnosis and treatment of this disease, as NPH is often underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed.
