Petznick Stroke Center
At a Glance: The Petznick Stroke Center
Best-in-class stroke care, exhaustive research to find new ways to both treat and prevent stroke, and a steadfast planting of seeds for stroke prevention through risk factor awareness.
At the Petznick Stroke Center, we’re dedicated to these pillars of stroke stewardship and vigilance—and our accolades underscore this.
Our Center cares for more stroke victims than any other center in the Southwestern U.S. Additionally, we’re the Southwest’s leading stroke research center: our team conducts more clinical treatment and prevention research trials than any other institution in the region. Our Center has met the rigorous standards for designation as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission, in partnership with the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association.
From pre-hospital settings to reintegration into community after a stroke, the Petznick Stroke Center offers a complete spectrum of care for you or your loved one.

Neuro-Rehabilitation & Neuro-Robotics
We’re proud to be home to the first mobile stroke unit to operate around the clock in a city with a population greater than 1 million. Our mobile stroke unit functions like an emergency room on wheels: it’s staffed with a trained team and comes equipped with a portable lab, computed tomography (CT) scanner, and clot-dissolving drugs. The mobile unit stroke team can even begin treatment on the scene after connecting with an on-call vascular neurologist.
The Barrow Emergency Stroke Treatment Unit was launched in 2017 in partnership with the Phoenix Fire Department and their dutiful 911 dispatchers, who deploy our mobile stroke unit whenever they intercept a call about a possible stroke within the unit’s response radius.
Neuro-Rehabilitation and Neuro-Robotics
Neuro-rehabilitation is key to stroke recovery. Our CARF-accredited Neuro-Rehabilitation Center offers inpatient, outpatient, and transitional rehabilitation programs.
We also lead the neuro-rehabilitation industry in the use of neuro-robotics; cutting-edge technologies that have allowed patients to reach new and unpredicted heights in function and independence.
