Neuropsychology Program
At a Glance: Our Neuropsychology Program
Our Department of Neuropsychology provides neuropsychological testing, evaluation, and rehabilitation for a range of neurological diseases in those 18 and older.
We work closely with neurosurgery, neurology, and neuroradiology to make sure you or your loved one get a correct diagnosis, plus provide repeat evaluations after treatment or following disease progression. Finally, we evaluate patients for organ transplantation and those with medical conditions affecting cognition.
If you have questions regarding a diagnosis not listed here or about the evaluations we perform, please give us a call at (602) 406-3671.
Cognitive Disorders Associated with the Neurological Conditions We Evaluate
The Barrow Difference
We’re very much a culture of research here at Barrow. Our faculty and students are actively involved in basic science research, clinical trials, and collaborative projects with other institutions.
During a neuropsychology evaluation, our clinicians aim to elicit the best possible performance under optimal conditions. A complete evaluation generally takes three to five hours, but the amount of time needed depends on the complexity of you or your loved one’s condition and your ability to cooperate—fatigue, confusion, and motor slowing can extend the time for the evaluation.
When to Refer for Neuropsychological Evaluation
An evaluation should be considered as soon as you or your loved one’s physician, health care provider, patient, or family members notice cognitive changes. A referral should be timed so that testing can be done when the patient is medically and psychiatrically stable.
Please note that we do not provide care for individuals with primary psychiatric disorders, offer evaluations for schools (e.g., IEPs for learning disabilities), or perform forensic evaluations.
