Electrographic Seizures and Periodic Discharges in the Critically Ill: Advanced EEG to Assess Risk of Late Epilepsy (LERA)

Purpose

This study is a prospective observational cohort study of the association between early seizures (ES) and periodic discharges (PD) after acute brain injury (ABI) and the subsequent development of epilepsy.

The purpose of this study is to assess the relationship between early seizures and periodic discharges and the development of later epilepsy, although the period of this study will not be long enough to assess all subjects for the development of epilepsy.

Who can participate

Adults 18 years and older undergoing continuous electroencephalogram (CEEG) monitoring on the long term EEG Service (LTM) who meet inclusion criteria will be eligible for enrollment in the study.

Visits

This study requires 5 in-person and telephone visits over 1 year.
