Lauren Gittings, PhD
Lauren Gittings, PhD, is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Sattler Laboratory within the Department of Translational Neuroscience at Barrow Neurological Institute.
Dr. Gittings’ expertise is in the research of neurodegenerative diseases, particularly amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
Dr. Gittings received her doctorate in neurodegenerative diseases from University College London in the United Kingdom.
Dr. Gittings’ research involves using cell models and patient tissue to identify mechanisms of disease pathogenesis in the ALS/FTD disease spectrum. This involves investigating the role of splicing variants and their effect on synaptic dysfunction and cortical degeneration, as well as identifying cellular and molecular signatures that influence cognitive impairment in ALS.
- PhD, University College London, 2018
- BSc, University of Bath, Natural Sciences, 2014
- Poster Prize Winner, Live Like Lou Symposium, Phoenix, 2022
- Student Travel Award, University of College London Doctoral School, 2018
